Coming Together

Last week of August was spent cleaning the rear axel of old grease then taking it outside to be sand blasted. Since this picture I have just sand blasted and painted the rear axle. The frame, front axle, springs and many small parts have been painted. In a week or two the truck should slowly start to come back together again.

My work took me out of town for several weeks so not much was done till around September 10th.  Now that winter is on the way the frame and rear end are back in the garage. I took some time to rearrange the garage for better working space. Now that I am bolting things back together the frame won't move from this spot till the wheels are attached.

Here I have laid out all the engine components in order that I removed them, right to left with the number one piston on the left. Next I took the head and engine block into town to a local engine rebuild shop to be hot tanked and checked for cracks. The shop found four hairline cracks in the head and had to bore the cylinders out .040 thousands. Before I can order a rebuild kit I need to check main bearings valves, etc. for possible replacement. Since I am back north working on the Alyeska pipeline north of the artic circle for the next two weeks work on the engine will continue after the first of the year.
