1929 Chevy LQ 1½ ton Truck

These pictures were taken the first day I had the truck delivered to my  garage. As you can see there isn't much left of the cab and the bed is in bad condition. Most all of the parts are there but some replacement will be necessary because of rust or damage. The tires were bald  and barely holding air, but I got six new tires in the deal. I paid to much for the truck but it was close by and the price was in reason. Transporting anything from the lower 48 to Alaska is expensive and time consuming so I made the choice to restore this 1929 Chevy Truck.

In 1965 Bill Swan, purchased  the truck in Oregon  and shipped it to Fairbanks Alaska where it sat in a field uncovered till 1998. I purchased the truck from him in June of 1998 after deciding that he would never have the time to do the restoration. Little did I know at the time what I was getting into and how much it was going to cost just getting the tools and other equipment necessary. This is my first restoration project and not being a mechanic is going to be a real challenge, July 2, 1998 I began restoration by stripping everything down to the chassis.

This web site contains a record of my restoration progress and information contained of value to others that might be doing similar restoration work.

Visit Dick Cutting's web site, to see a restored 29 similar to mine (shown right) and his collection of working class Chevy/Ford trucks. I constantly e-mail Dick with questions and keeping him updated on my progress.

Dick's fleet of light and heavy duty trucks was featured article in the last issue for year 1999 of  "THIS OLD TRUCK" magazine.

See my Want List Page for a listing of restoration items needed. Check out the Parts and Service section for a list of restoration suppliers, and Salvage Yards Page of interest to antique Chevy owners. I have recently added more Information pages to aid others in their restorations. If you have any information of interest to others that I can use on this web site please let me know. Comments or criticism gratefully accepted.

Please note!  I am not a expert mechanic nor do I have a background in mechanics with vast knowledge of old Chevy's or any other makes, I am learning as you might be. These web pages contain data that I collected over the years from various sources. If you have technical questions you cannot find here I would advise that you visit the Vintage Chevrolet Car Club of America chat board and discussion forum at www.vccachat.org. Consider joining this fine organization.
